Thank you so much for opening! In today’s post I share about intuition, what’s getting in the way, and my unique approach to this. Also I am hosting a virtual tea party to celebrate my book’s 3rd birthday and I want to invite you to come! Scroll down for details. 🎂🎉
Most people I work with have a strong desire to connect with their intuition. They yearn to develop psychic gifts and hone their ability to hear the Voice of their Soul or the many whispers of the elemental forces, sacred ancestors, and faery guardians of the land.
I could just “dose them up” with a handful of plant essences to help them strengthen their intuitive gifts and send them on their way.
But this would not be in integrity.
Why? Because they may not realize it, but most of them already have strong psychic inclinations. Many don’t think they do, but based on what they share about their dreams or deep feeling experiences and sensitivity, it’s clear that the issue does not lie with lack of ability.
That is not to say that honing discernment through training and experience is not an important part of the journey.
However, strengthening one’s intuition is rarely what’s needed. Instead we need to examine and identify what’s getting in the way.
2 main blocks to intuition and engaging with the Mythic:
Subconscious Fear - there are so many reasons we may be afraid of our own power and intuition. Many of these fears are subconscious, meaning that we don’t realize they are operating in our energy field and causing us to block our true nature. These fears can stem from early childhood, family dynamics, family or community taboos, or old ancestral trauma or unresolved past life experiences.
Disconnection from the body - a lot of “spiritual” people tend to disassociate or are completely ungrounded and afraid of being in the body. Unable to deal with the pain or unpleasant emotions, they check out, preferring the spiritual realms to the cold hard reality of the 3D.
There’s also a rising third issue that I place under “disconnection from the body,” but probably deserves its own category: dopamine addiction. Specifically related to the ubiquitous usage of technology and social media that is wrecking our neural pathways of connection.
Now the above issues I’ve mentioned here are not judgements at all. I suffered from these two issues myself. My early spiritual journey was characterized by spiritual escapism. I didn’t feel safe because my early childhood experience was unstable due to family alcoholism and dysfunction. I also had unresolved ancestral and past life trauma that manifested in the form of a phobia.
I didn’t want to take time to “heal.” After all, there was so much to learn and spiritual adventures to be had. Healing and looking at my stuff was not my idea of a party.
Eventually, however, I had to address the underlying issues. Which did not go away overnight. Healing is a process; resolving underlying patterns of energy takes time. But damn is it worth it. At least, it was for me.
I share a large part of this story in my book Initiation: My Faery Soul Awakening.
But here’s what I don’t share in this first memoir book because the story only goes up to 2010: even after my culminating moment of remembering myself as faery, I still wrestled with escapism, addiction, and avoiding my emotions.
All the meditating in the world was never going to help me heal and transmute those underlying issues. You know what they say, “the only way out is through.”
The plant essences help us walk through. My goodness, do I wish I had the plants spirits as allies to support me during these early years!
The essences help us work through these issues, not by “magic-ing” them away, but because the essences embrace us as we navigate. They help us face these parts of self with courage.
This is why the plant spirits are my go-to ally to support clients who are seeking to soul remember. Even in my deeper trainings and containers, I provide essence support to help the participants integrate the profound initiatory processes they undergo as they are working with the Otherworld forces of faery, dragon, and other guardians of Earth.
What the essences do not do is make you ascend or suddenly gain faery sight—I’m sorry but that would be pointless!
What they do is help you LIVE better.
And yes, part of living better is connection with self and with the world around you. It’s about awakening your connection to the Living World and its mythic forces. But I cannot overstate the importance of doing this in a natural way.
So this is why I don’t start with giving people specific essences to “awaken their gifts.” I find it much more sustainable to work on embodiment and healing first, which often includes helping people feel safe, grounded, anchored in their body, and free of fear and trauma-conditioning.
Some initial essences for safety and embodiment include Red Cedar and Borage. Oak is also a terrific ally. Each one of these beings has incredible medicine to support us today in embodying our full human capacity, which includes the aspects of Soul and Spirit as well as our ancestral and mythic roots.

What happens with this approach is a person’s natural gifts will start blossoming in an organic way in divine timing and order with their Soul and Spirit.
But again, this takes time. Like anything worth doing, takes time, patience, and fortitude.
Thankfully, there are also essences to work with to help with patience 😂 (and discovering and resolving what’s underneath the impatience). I love Eucalyptus tree to help us remember to pause and sink into the breath (with an affinity for healing healing the father-line) or Lemon Balm if someone is in their head too much.

In special cases, I might add an essence from the Elemental Whispers Essences vault like Sacred Pool essence collected on an Island off the coast of Maine that drops you into the silence and Void deep within your own being.

*Now to be fair, I’m giving one or two ideas about these spirit medicines. But please know that each plant, tree, or place is so multifaceted and their way of working with us is vast. The essences are doorways into working with the spirit-level of these allies.

Possible virtual class if there’s interest
I am feeling inspired to teach a masterclass on Best Lessons I learned from 20 years of Working with Faery. But only if there’s enough interest. Do let me know.
Diomira, so good to read this post, and see you express what I have also found, over the decades, to be of so much importance when doing flower essence readings for clients, listening to the plants and flowers and their messages, and watching the clients’ journeys evolve.
Quoting you: “What the essences do is not make you ascend or suddenly gain faery sight…
What they do is help you LIVE better. …part of living better is connection with self and with the world around you. It’s about awakening your connection to the Living World and its mythic forces.… helping people feel safe, grounded, anchored in their body…”
When studying with my dearest friend Steve Johnson, founder of the Alaskan Essences, whom I strongly feel supporting our work from the dimension he has been in for a number of years now, we used to hear him assert, again and again, that the foundational level for our personal healing and evolution while here on Earth is to first fully arrive here.
In his courses, he would repeatedly show us the importance of bringing our souls into our bodies with the support of the essences, and from this place of embodied presence, open our perceptions in balanced and gradual ways.
And based on this foundation, he brought forth a most beautiful approach of focusing on the heart as the center point for of our awakened perceptions. And all the green flowers!!
So much more to exchange on this rich topic! I look forward to continue nurturing this conversation possibly through collaborative dialogues like this one we have just began.
