At the Water's Edge
Well Maiden: six years of living the work before teaching it
I’m deep in the watery womb of the Great Well, listening at the water’s edge. Singing back its otherworldly melodies. Tracing its echoing whispers. It requires a lot of quiet and a lot of space.
But my mind is not quiet. It’s full of air and thoughts and synapses firing at the speed of light. And the world seems to be moving at that electric-fast pace as well.
For 6 years I’ve been sitting with this creation that wants to be birthed into the world. It is a creation born from this seed:
The Well Maidens were the Voices of the Wells once long ago, and the rupture that followed is one we’re still living. We’ve inherited the rupture in our DNA as lineage wounds.
So the program sits within me like a cauldron of swirling memory and awareness. Sometimes several shimmering bubbles rise to the surface at once, and I sit with them all.
The dream of this program has sometimes submerged itself for periods of time, disappearing from my conscious mind as life unfolds or other offerings or ways of serving want to emerge.
But this creation now lives in me. It breathes me. Like writing an epic novel, you have to hold all the mythic threads and ensure the story arc is paced just right.
As part of the living of it, I make weekly pilgrimage to local springs. It doesn’t matter if they have dried up. They deserve our presence all the same. Because the dried-up waters are indicative of the Wasteland that has resulted from the rupture.
Because the myth of the Well Maidens is not make-believe. Myth is alive and speaks a truth only our Soul knows the language of. But this is not a reason to despair, for in most myths of rupture, the remedy lives there too, and this one is no different. That’s part of the exploration and journey of this initiatory container.
Which I’m still writing, deepening. For now, I just wanted to arise from the watery Well to say hello.
About Diomira
I’m Diomira Rose D’Agostino, a spiritual ecologist, astrologer, flower essence practitioner, and teacher of the Earth Mysteries. Through myth, sacred ecology, and direct experience, I help people re-enchant the human heart, awaken a deeper relationship with the seen and unseen dimensions of nature, and remember themselves as participants in Earth’s sacred ecology.
Here on Substack, I share reflections from the living edge of that work, where myth, pilgrimage, land, and soul meet. Sometimes they become essays. Sometimes they become offerings. Often they begin simply as a Grail Question I’m learning to live.
If this stirred something...
I'm currently welcoming a handful of one-on-one clients into deeper journeys of soul remembrance. This is intimate, initiatory work for those navigating a threshold of change, longing to remember who they are at a deeper level, and seeking relationship with the living world as part of that process.

There is something about the well-maidens that calls to me too. I have been visiting the white and red springs regularly since moving back to Glastonbury. We did a wonderful podcast with a man called Yuri Leitch on our Avalon Sacred Groves Podcast too, where he talked extensively about the well maidens. If you'd like the link, let me know.
